After High School Darold attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA where he played football. To work his way through he went into different kinds sales and was very good at it. With ‘Wear-ever’ he went to CA and worked his way up in the company.

He married while in college to Joyce Byers who was a nurse in training in Sioux City. They had three children, two boys, Tim and Dan and a girl, Diane. They moved back to Des Moines, IA and on to Minneapolis where he died in July of 1983 following complications of heart surgery.
