Obituary

Rachel (Wiegman) Evans Fabens
(1923-2002)

Rachel was born March 19, 1923, in Rolfe, to Henry and Marie (Hauck) Wiegman. She was a 1941 graduate of Rolfe High School and in 1945, Iowa State University. A resident of Iowa most of her life, she died of cancer, at her home, in The Landings, Fort Myers, Florida, on January 16, 2002.

On June 17, 1944, she was married to John Hedrick "Jack" Evans, the son of late John L. and Katherine (McCarroll) Evans, of Storm Lake, IA. Rachel was active in the Iowa Republican Party, serving as a delegate, and on the Iowa Human Rights Commission, for several years. Mr. Evans, a partner in Woodruff-Evans Construction Co., Fort Dodge, Iowa, retired in the early 1980's, and they moved to Florida, where he died suddenly of a heart attack, on March 29, 1995.

In Fort Myers, Florida, Rachel was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter FD, and Iona-McGregor Kiwanis Club. On August 12, 1998, she married A. Lawrie Fabens, Jr., in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Jack, her older brother, Henry Jean, her sister, Janice Stelzer, and brother-in-law, Edwin Denio Evans, Joplin, Missouri.

Survivors include her husband, a daughter, a son, four grandchildren—all of California—and a younger brother of Houston, Texas.

Memorial services were held at The Landings, and her ashes scattered over the Gulf of Mexico.
