SIGRID (SIMONSON) ACHORN

February 26, 1936 - October 27, 2004

Sigrid Achorn of Berthoud, Colorado died October 27, 2004 at her home. She was 68.

 

She was born February 26, 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Roy Lodden and Nelda Maeme (Lehnus) Simonson.

 

She married Lawrence Achorn April 25, 1959 in Rolfe, Iowa.

 

She received her BA degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and an MA degree from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

 

She moved to Longmont in 1972 from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.

 

She taught music in Iowa and Minnesota before her move to Longmont. She then taught for 25 years at Burlington Elementary School.

 

She was of the Lutheran faith her entire life and was currently a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont. She was actively involved in church music as an organist, choir director and hand bell choir director. She also was a member of PEO Chapter II.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents.

 

She is survived by her husband of Berthoud; a son, Lawrence S. Achorn of Piedmont, California; a daughter, Gretchen Nightingale of Denver; two brothers, LeRoy Simonson and his wife Ruth of Rolfe, Iowa and Merlin Simonson and his wife Trudy of Heidelberg, Germany; a sister, Marlene Lundsgaard and her husband Conrad of Cherokee, Iowa and three grandchildren, Sheila Nightingale of Boston and Jackson and Calvin Achorn of Piedmont, California.

 

Memorial Service 10:00 AM Saturday, November 13, 2004 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Berke officiating. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In Lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund for maintenance of the hand bells and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street Longmont, CO 80501.
