GEORGE DORNATH

Longtime Fairbanks and North Pole resident Gerhard "George" Dornath, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Arctic Hearth in North Pole. He was 81.

George was born on Oct. 2, 1922, in Gilmore City, Iowa; he graduated from college with a bachelor of arts degree. He served in the Philippines during World War II.

After completing his military service, George decided to move to Fairbanks where he homesteaded his present farm. He started Alaska Feed Co. in 1961, which he ran until the mid-1970s when George married Gwelda, which later ended in divorce. In 1989, George started Grubstake Feed Co. at its present location. He remained involved with Grubstake right up to the time of his death.

George had a large family of friends in Fairbanks; he will be missed and remembered by all.

A celebration of life and potluck will be held in George's memory from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Dog Mushers Hall on Farmers Loop.
