DONALD B. HOOD

Rolfe — Donald B. Hood, 81, died on Aug. 30, 2004 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Rolfe with Fr. Merle Kollasch officiating. Burial was at St. John's Catholic Cemetery at Gilmore City.

Donald Basil Hood was born on June 15, 1923 near Gilmore City. He was the son of Rene and Hattie (Donnelly) Hood. Don graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War I1 in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge, Don returned to farm near Gilmore City. On Jan. 20, 1948, Don married Dorothy Ann Nielsen at Pocahontas. The couple lived in the Rolfe area and in 1951, they moved into Rolfe. Don drove trucks in the area until he retired in 1985. Dorothy died on Oct. 19, 1984, and Don entered Friendship Haven in Dec. of 2003.

Don was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church, the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the AMVETS. He enjoyed playing cribbage and euchre and visiting with his many friends.

Survivors include his children: Marcia (Tom) Trammell of Fort Dodge, Mike (Linda) Hood of Rolfe, Mark (Leslie) Hood of LaDue, Mo. and Paul Hood of Waterloo; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren: and brothers, Bernard (Carol) Hood of Mallard and Bill (Joan) Hood of Yuma, Ariz.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy and son, Eugene.
