JERRY L. HUGHES

Rolfe - Jerry Hughes, age 63, died on Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Rolfe. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Shared Ministry Church in Rolfe with Rev. Tamara EnTin officiating. Interment was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery in Rolfe.

Survivors include his son, David (Val) Hughes of Defiance, Ohio; daughter, Brenda (Vern) Ryen of Fenton; grandchildren, Jamie, Andrew, Richie, and Mindy; sisters, Susan (Dean) Stockwell of Laurens and Linda Kemery of Lenox; brothers, Gene (Judy) Hughes of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Jackie Hughes of Clear Lake.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Herscher; and brother, Kenneth Hughes.

Jerry Lee Hughes was born on February 25, 1941, at Fort Dodge. He was the son of Harris and Erma (Colee) Hughes. Jerry was raised in Rolfe and spent much of his time with his aunt, Marjorie Hughes. Jerry graduated from Rolfe High School in 1959. On August 16, 1959, Jerry married Ann Wood at Rolfe. Jerry worked at the Humboldt Sale Barn before he purchased the Super Valu in Rolfe. He operated Jerry's Super Valu until 1979. After that, he worked construction in the area, retiring in 1987, due to failing health. he entered the Rolfe Care Center in January of 2004.

Jerry was a member of Shared Ministry. He also belonged to the Lions Club, the Rolfe Fire Department, the Community Business Club, the golf course, and was on the committee that built the Rolfe Swimming Pool. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed woodworking and traveling.
