ARLENE M. JOHNSON

Rolfe - Arlene M. Johnson, age 86, of Pocahontas, formerly of Rolfe, died on March 5, 2003, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital.

 Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rolfe, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial was in Powhatan Cemetery near Plover.

 Survivors include daughter Linda (Mike) Hood of Rolfe; sons, Phillip (Kate) Johnson of Rolfe, Arlin "Johnny" (Pat) Johnson of Pocahontas and Dean (Dianna) Johnson of Bloomfield; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilda (John) Bush of Bloomington, Minnesota, Maudell Rich of Freemont, Ohio, brother Jerry (LeAnn) Kilbourn of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and son-in-law Rich (Bonnie) Newgard of Laurens. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fritz; daughter Deborah Newgard; two sisters; and three brothers.

 Arlene Marie Kilbourn was born on October 8, 1916, near Plover. She was the daughter of Arthur and Gena (Thompson) Kilbourn. Arlene was educated at D. M. T. School. On October 27, 1934, Arlene married Fritz Johnson at Emmetsburg. The couple made their home on the "Swamp Farm" north of Rolfe. Arlene worked as a nurses aide for several years at the Rolfe Care Center. Fritz died on April 3, 1974, and Arlene moved into Rolfe in 1975. In 2001, she moved to Arlington Place in Pocahontas.

 Arlene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She was very active in the Sunday School program and other church activities. Arlene enjoyed sewing, reading, and working in her spare time. She was always helping her children with various projects.
