MARIAN BENNETT JOHNSON

Pocahontas — Marian Bennett Johnson, age 86, passed away Thursday, September 20, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas.. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 24 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hope United Methodist Church in Pocahontas, with Rev. Dwight Grosvenor officiating. Burial was at the Clinton-Garfield Cemetery near Rolfe.

Marian Madeline Ryen was born December 27, 1920, near Rolfe. She was the daughter of George and Ida (Nelson) Ryen. She attended country school and graduated from the DMT High School near Rolfe in 1938. On February 16, 1942, Marian married William Bennett in Memphis, Mo. The couple settled on the family farm south of West Bend. William passed away in January of 1997. Marian remained on the farm until 2001, when she moved to Arlington Place in Pocahontas. On February 9, 2002, Marian married Bernard Johnson in Pocahontas. The couple settled in Pocahontas.

Marian was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church and the UMW. She enjoyed. playing cards and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard of Pocahontas; daughters, Nancy (Wilfred) Wiuff of Rutland, and Gloria (Raymond) Dewey of Rolfe; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren and brother, Gene (Luella) Ryen of Fort Dodge.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shirley Page; brothers, Lee and Virgil Ryen; sister, Opal Allen; and four infant grandchildren.
