CHARLES H. LEHNUS

ROLFE - Charles H. Lehnus, age 102, of Pocahontas, formerly of Rolfe, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 at the Clinton-Garfield Cemetery near Rolfe. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe.

Charles Henry Lehnus was born May 25, 1901, near Plover. He attended country school and was in the first graduating class from the Des Moines Township High School in 1919. In 1929, Charles married Ila Marie Jarvis at the Jarvis family farm east of Plover. The couple settled in the Rolfe-Plover area where they farmed, retiring in 1957. Ila died in 1982 and Charles moved into Rolfe in 1992. He moved to the Senior Living Center in Pocahontas in 1995 and to the Pocahontas Manor in 1998.

Charles was a member of the Shared Ministry in Rolfe and the Order of the Arch at Buena Vista University. He was a past mem­ber of the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his daughter Gwendolyn and Larry Martin of Sac City; grandchildren Bradley and Renee Martin of Allenspark, Colo., Major Brian and Kellie Martin of Columbia, Mo. and Barbara and Dr. Blake Bextine of Riverside, Calif.; great-grand­children, Kaitlyn, Lily, Finnian and Brittany. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ila, an infant son, brothers, Oliver, Benjamin, George and Edward and sisters Elsie Wentz, Clara Palmer and Nelda Simonson.
