Bernard J. “Bernie” McCreary

TRAVERSE CITY — Bernard  J. “Bernie” McCreary, 70, of Traverse City, passed away early Sunday. Sept. 22, 2002 at his home.

Born Feb. 6, 1932, in Rolfe, Iowa, he was the son of James F. and Emma (Wiegert) McCreary. In 1951, in Detroit, he married the former Lynne Dreyer, who survives.

Bernie was retired from Unisys (Burroughs) Corpora­tion. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 383, American Military League, and Knights of Columbus in Roseville. Bernie served with the U.S. Navy Reserve, stationed at Belle Isle, Detroit, and was a member of the Dolphins.

Other survivors are his children, Tom (Carol) McCreary of Wichita, Kan., Michael McCreary of Springfield, Mo., Kathleen (Mark) Roster of Alpena, Daniel McCreary of California; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Patrick, in 1976.

Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City this evening, Sept. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 am., with the Rev. Father James Gardiner serving as celebrant and the Rev. Father Leonard Paul, C.S.C. serving as co-celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.
