ELLWOOD OLERICH

Ellwood Olerich, age 86, died on November 4, 2003, at the Rolfe Care Center.

Ellwood George Olerich was born on December 19, 1916, at Rolfe. He was the son of Henry and Caroline (Brinkman) Olerich. Ellwood was educated in Rolfe country schools and graduated from Rolfe High School in 1934. He also attended Iowa State College in Ames and Morningside College in Sioux City. After he completed his education, Ellwood returned to Rolfe and began farming with his father. On August 15, 1942, Ellwood married Barbara Melson at Humboldt. The couple has made their home in the Rolfe area since their marriage. Ellwood raised purebred Poland China hogs. He retired from farming in 1972, and entered the Rolfe Care Center in June of this year.

Ellwood was a member of the Presbyterian Church, now the Shared Ministry. He has served as a Garfield Township Trustee. Ellwood loved the land and he always kept his family and friends entertained with his stories of farm life.

Survivors include his wife: Barbara of Rolfe; daughter: Sara (Dale) Schoenefeld of Tulsa, OK; sons: Tom (Anne) Olerich of Olathe, KS and Henry (Pat) Olerich of Shakopee, MN; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ellwood was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Alma Martens and Islea Hope Riddlesbarger and brothers, Orvan, Byron and Eldon.
