JEANE RITTGERS

ROLFE — Jeane Rittgers, age 99, of Rolfe, died on Dec. 11, 2007, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at The Shared Ministry of Rolfe with the Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Burial will be in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe.

Jeane Scheffers was born on Feb. 18, 1908, at Corsica, SD. She was the daughter of Henry and Maggie (Dykshorn) Scheffers. Jeane graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School and Morningside College in Sioux City. She married Jake Rittgers on July 20, 1935, on the Rittgers family farm near Rolfe. The couple made their home on the farm until 1979, when they moved into Rolfe. Jeane taught music at the Des Moines Township school, Plover and Bradgate for 13 years. She also gave piano lessons for many years. Jake died on Jan. 6, 1999, and Jeane has continued to live in her own home in Rolfe.

Jeane was a long time member of the Rolfe Presbyterian Church, now the Shared Ministry. She served as the church organist for many, many years. Jeane was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having been Past Worthy matron. She enjoyed music, crocheting and knitting, reading, gardening and doing the cryptoquote puzzles.

Survivors include her children, Don (BeaAnne) Rittgers of Rolfe, Allen Rittgers of Tempe, Ariz., and Joan Burns of Humboldt; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Jeane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jake, infant son, Jackie Dean, brother, Ray Scheffers, and sister, Mildred Slobe.
