DUANE SAATHOFF

ROLFE — Duane "Satch" Saathoff, age 82, of Rolfe, died on Sunday, April 22, 2007, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26 at The Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe. Burial is in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Powers Funeral Home, Rolfe.

Duane "Satch" Saathoff was born Nov. 21, 1924, at Hopkinton, Iowa. He was the son of John C. and Etta (Kurth) Saathoff. He was educated in Coggen area schools. Satch joined the US Army in February 1943. On Aug. 10, 1947, he married Lois Cran at Humboldt. In 1949, he joined the National Guard 1/194 Field Artillery until 1952. Duane worked in Law Enforcement for 12 years in Humboldt. He had a body shop located in Dakota City and a small engine repair shop in Rolfe. Lois and Satch would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August.

He is survived by his wife Lois Saathoff of Rolfe; son Raymond (Kathy) of Humboldt; daugher Patty (Lucky) Studebaker of Curlew; grandsons: Matthew Saathoff, Jeremy (Amy) Studebaker and Casey Studebaker; sisters, Jean (Charles) Thatcher of Bode, Doris Jass of Alden, and Norma Vestweber of Goldfield. Satch was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, John "Jackie" Saathoff.

Satch had a story for every occasion and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
